Whether online or in person, you've probably heard some awful chat-up lines in your time. While some cheesy pickups can be funny, others just make you cringe and struggle to come up with any response.

You may use chat-up lines to break the ice – after all, what's better to put someone at ease talking to you than a bit of laughter – or you may be secretly hoping that they will actually work. However you use them, they can always be a bit hit and miss, and there is definitely no guarantee of success.

Whether you love them or hate them, you can't deny that bad chat-up lines are amusing a lot of the time. We've rounded up some of the worst pickup lines ever to make you laugh or give you a bit of inspiration – if you're feeling brave that is!

If I were to rearrange the alphabet, I'd put U and I together

There's nothing like a classic pickup line. While it probably won't do the trick – let's face it, we've all heard it before – it will probably get a laugh and give you an opportunity to make a slightly better impression.

Do you want to come back to mine for the two most disappointing minutes of your life?

Self-deprecating chat-up lines can get someone laughing and show that you aren't completely up yourself. This can actually put someone at ease and mean they are more likely to want to talk to you. Despite this plus side, this line is still pretty bad.

If you were a Transformer, you'd be Optimus Fine

A standard chat-up line is one that tells the person you want to start talking to just how good looking you think they are. The problem with these is that they sound super cheesy and could just result in an eye roll and a walk away. You also stand a chance of the person you're trying it on with not getting the reference.

Do you work at Subway? 'Cause you just gave me a footlong

You can always be brave and try and get risque with your pickup lines. The only problem is, you risk getting a slap, a drink over your head or getting in trouble with someone's boyfriend. Hopefully, if you don't take it too seriously, you may get away with it.

Have a feel of this shirt – do you know what that feels like? Boyfriend material

If you're looking for something more than one night, it's probably best to steer clear of any line that makes it sound like you just want a fling. This means steering clear of sexual innuendos, although you may want to avoid cliche lines like this.

Did it hurt? Falling from heaven?

When it doubt, you can always use a classic. There's no chance they're going to work as well as any other line, but at least you aren't just sat there in silence. Of course, you could just start a normal conversation instead, as that's probably going to yield better results.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801825119-ADNFCR
