A world record-holding endurance athlete is set to embark on a gruelling new challenge in the hope of raising £100,000 for the Help for Heroes Charity by the end of the year.

Mike Buss, who has already broken an astonishing nine world records since September 2009, is set to take part in both the Brighton and London marathons in April.

But if that isn’t hard enough, he won’t be catching the train from his home town of Swindon to Brighton, but will be running the entire distance, before taking part in the marathon, jogging to London for the second event and then running home again.

Mr Buss, who was medically discharged from the army ten years ago when an IRA bomb left him deaf in one ear, hopes to raise a staggering £1 million for Help for Heroes by 2014.

"I can’t stand in line shoulder to shoulder anymore but I can still do my bit for Queen and Country, supporting those brave men and women on operations in Afghanistan," he said.

Oil and gas manager Mark Elliot recently revealed that he also hopes to raise £1 million for the charity by losing 30 pounds of body weight.
