A group of cyclists are to complete a historic route in order to raise money for Help for Heroes.

The path of the World War I retreat from Brussels to Paris will be retraced by those taking part in a special Hero Ride, reports the Eastern Daily Press.

Bosses at Help for Heroes are hoping that this year's Hero Ride will raise as much as £1.5 million, which can be used to support injured military personnel.

Mark Cavendish, who is acting as an ambassador for Hero Ride 2014, said: "The Hero Ride is an amazing opportunity to cycle alongside our wounded men and women and to hear their inspirational stories."

Tackling such a notable route with strong links to previous conflict is sure not to be lost on those competing.

Last year, the Hero Ride attracted some 1,300 people of all ages and abilities, all of whom came together to raise money for members of the armed forces who require support.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801714573-ADNFCR
