A woman who is afraid of heights is going to leap out of a plane to raise money for Pilgrim Bandits.

Cindy Hoten is determined to conquer her fears in order to collect cash for the military charity, the News and Star reports.

She is one of 200 people who have signed up to take part in the parachute jump and she told the paper: "I get car sick and I am afraid of heights so I'm still not sure why I'm doing this."

Ms Hoten observed that as long as she can bring a smile to one face, then it will all be worthwhile.

The woman – who has also been named as the Lake District's wartime sweetheart – has roped her mum in to do the jump.

Ms Hoten went on to note she will use the thought of all the brave soldiers fighting overseas as her inspiration to conquer her fears.
