Internet dating can help people who have previously been unlucky in love.

Cathy Comerford did not meet Mr Right until she was in her 40s after a string of ill-fated relationships.

Writing in the Guardian, she observed she dated one man for seven years and another for three, before she decided to go online to find someone special.

After about ten first dates, she met a man who seemed to tick the majority of the boxes and after a long-ish courtship, the pair eventually married and had a son.

Ms Comerford remarked that after a while she became very good at reading through online profiles in order to find someone she was interested in.

The female insists that a picture cannot tell people everything they need to know, but messages should be clear and tactful.

Chrissy Richman, director of thelifechangepeople.com, recently encouraged people to pick an activity that will break the ice for a first date.
