Deep sea diving is an activity a lot of people enjoy, as it offers them the opportunity to get up close and personal with marine life.

However, one fish that no one wants to see in this setting is a shark.

Apart from Cristina Zenato that is, who has achieved notoriety for her ability to charm a ten-foot Caribbean Reef shark.

By rubbing the jelly-filled pores around the animal's nose and mouth, Ms Zenato makes it enter a state of paralysis for about 15 minutes.

Photographer Matthew Meier was there to catch the remarkable feat on film.

The 42-year-old stated: "It was totally relaxing to watch the sharks swim slow circles around us in hopes of being fed by Cristina. I was in awe."

He added being able to observe the beasts in their natural habitat was a brilliant experience.

Another person who got close to a shark was Oregon native Doug Niblack, who accidently ended up surfing on a great white's back earlier this month.
