Help for Heroes has benefited to the tune of more than £6,000 after people on the south coast worked to raise money for the good cause.

Southbourne Infant School and the Cricketers Pub in Westbourne raised £2,114 and £4,385 respectively for the charity, reports the Chichester Observer.

The events were held in memory of Dave Sinclair, who died suddenly in April. His wife Sue is a teaching assistant at the school, and pupils wanted to do something to show their support for the former soldier.

Mr Sinclair had been in the forces for 22 years and was a staunch supporter of Help for Heroes.

"They raised a massive amount and I was very proud of all the children and the support from the parents," Mrs Sinclair explained.

Children at the school completed 20 laps around the playing field for sponsorship, while a family fun day was held at the local pub to top up the fund.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801618052-ADNFCR
