Serving members of the armed forces and injured veterans will soon be able to get free tickets for events at a Cardiff venue.

The Wales Millennium Centre (WMC) has joined the Tickets for Troops scheme and is the first facility in the country to do so, the BBC reports.

Fiona Allen of the WMC said of the idea: "It’s a great way to support the UK’s troops and their families."

Other locations already supporting the programme, which was established in 2009, include the O2 Arena in London and the Royal Opera House.

The Cardiff Blues and Cardiff Devils rugby clubs have also pledged to get involved with the cause.

It is hoped the notion will grant free access for troops to major cultural, sporting and musical spectacles.

Flight Lieutenant Marc Heal of 18 Squadron at RAF Odiham was recently awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross by the Queen at Buckingham Palace for his efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq.
