A man who lost a leg during his career in the army will cover hundreds of miles by bike in a bid to raise as much money as possible for Help for Heroes.
Gaz Golightly of Spennymoor in County Durham was working for the Royal Logistic Corps when he was hurt in a road accident and lost a limb, reports the Northern Echo.
He managed to drag himself from the blazing car he had been travelling in, but could not do enough to prevent his serious injuries.
Mr Golightly has now signed up to take part in the 423-mile cycle ride from Edinburgh to London in aid of Help for Heroes.
"I only tried the bike for the first time just before Easter. I was told I was good, so got stuck in and have clocked up quite a few miles since then," he stated.
The ride gets underway on May 28th.
