A veteran is seeking to raise money for Help for Heroes (H4H) and the Royal British Legion (RBL).

Ex-Sergeant Major John Wilkinson is supporting the Poppy Appeal and has also organised a series of events to collect cash for H4H, the Dorset Echo reports.

Last year, he completed a 260-km round trip to Arnhem in the Netherlands and has so far managed to get around £2,000 in sponsorship.

"H4H takes care of those military personnel and their families and the Poppy Appeal ensures they stay at the forefront of everybody's minds," Mr Wilkinson stated.

The man also visits care homes in the Dorset area to give talks about his time in the military.

Mr Wilkinson donned his old army smock and red beret in order to encourage people to give generously to the two good causes, which continue to support servicemen and women who need help once they return from the front line.
