When using online dating sites to find love, people should choose a portal that reflects their personal preferences.

This is according to David Evans, editor of OnlineDatingPost.com, who noted "age group, sexual orientation, location [and] tastes" should all be taken into consideration.

Single soldiers trying to find a long-lasting connection with a special someone may want to take this advice on board.

As well as this, Mr Evans advised people to ask their friends and families to see if they have any recommendations.

"Try a … few sites. Once you find some you like, sign up for three or six months," he stated.

People should also be wary of any reviews they read and could be best off giving something a go before making a final decision about its efficacy.

Mr Evans remarked people should also use new photos when drawing up their profiles, while some need to be full length.
