Outsourcing is becoming increasingly popular as companies look to cut costs.

Typically, it sees companies move specific parts of their company – such as the payroll – to another firm, who will carry out the task for much cheaper than they can.

However, a software developer in the US has taken this one step further, as he outsourced his own job to a person in China.

He handed over just one-fifth of his six-figure salary to a company based in Shenyang to fill his position and spent his time surfing the web, watching cat videos on YouTube and looking for deals on eBay.

The man was only rumbled after his employer suspected there was a security breach on its network and carried out an audit.

Unsurprisingly, the staff member was sacked once his scam was unveiled, but you can't help but think he's a genius, as he was literally getting paid for doing nothing.
