It’s always nice to hear of charitable troops undertaking challenges to support their fellow soldiers.

To raise money for the Help for Heroes charity, the 75 Engineer Regiment are set to take on the gruelling task of cycling the 215-mile Trans-Pennine Trail in just two days, the Warrington Guardian reports.

But Help for Heroes is not the only charity that will benefit from these kind-hearted soldiers – the money raised will also go to the Orford Children’s Group in order to provide facilities for disabled kids.

Event organiser Joe Dodd says that £500 has already been raised and the troops hope to raise at least a few thousand pounds for these worthwhile causes.

However, the training for the event – which will see participants cycle from Hornsea on the east coast to Southport – has not been easy.

"We have been out cycling most days but a lot of us are in our 40s and haven’t been on a bike for years," explains Mr Dodd.

Meanwhile, Mike Buss, a world record-holding endurance athlete is set to run both the London and Brighton marathons in April in the hope of raising £100,000 for Help for Heroes by the end of the year.
