Novice triathlete Will Helbert has been putting his best foot forward to support troops and raise money for Help for Heroes.

The sports fan, from Chipping Campden, finished 143rd out of 385 in his first triathlon last weekend and gathered nearly £300 for the charity and the Chipping Campden Raising the Rec campaign, the Tewkesbury Admag reported.

He took part in the sprint triathlon in Sandford Park, Cheltenham and crossed the finishing line in just under an hour, a result he said made him "quite pleased".

"For me the most difficult bit was the running," Mr Helbert told the news provider.

"I think I took too much fluid on board on the bike ride and started cramping in my stomach."

Cyclists of a different kind in Plymouth have also been raising funds for Help for Heroes to support the military.

The Herald said motorbike enthusiasts gathered along the Hoe Promenade for Bike Night and raised hundreds of pounds.
