A grandmother from Yorkshire is showing her support for soldiers by completing a series of charity treks.

Julie Phillips is named a "supergran" by the Halifax Courier and recently climbed Everest in honour of Help for Heroes.

The dinner lady from Shibden said: "It was absolutely outstanding. I just can't explain it."

And it seems her Everest mission did not deter her efforts, as Ms Phillips went on to scale Kala Patthar in Nepal the month after she returned from her first feat.

Almost £2,000 has already been raised for the charity and youngsters at Salterlee School have been showing their support with fun days and cake sales.

The grandmother has expressed her interest in returning to Everest in the future and claimed she would "definitely" take it on again if there was an opportunity to do so.

Fellow gran 68-year-old Barbara Witts recently joined a host of other elderly women who stripped off and posed nude for a calendar in aid of Help for Heroes, the Oxford Times reported.
