The two words that comes to mind when you think of Britain’s military might is pure strength. But add the US to that and you know you have a recipe for the strongest power in the world.

Royal Navy sailors came together with Royal Marine commandoes recently for a joint drill in the South China Sea.

The British Ships joined their US counterparts for the third time since December. Royal Navy frigate HMS Montrose and USNS Guadalupe jointly held security and logistics trainings. The search and size drill was meant to train the naval officers in situations where illegal trafficking may be involved. The ships also implemented NATO protocols for replenishment, and practiced safely transferring fuel while in motion.

“This was a valuable exercise for us, keeping our integrated Royal Navy and Royal Marines boarding team sharp and ready to deliver any mission assigned to them,” Cmdr. Conor O’Neill of the HMS Montrose said in a statement about the activity.

In the last year, Britain has been working on increasing its presence and involvement in the South China Sea. The move is a part of our country’s plan to counter China’s ever-increasing advances over territory that it has no claims to.

The drills are just another part of Britain ensuring stability in regions that are frankly not anywhere near it. By strengthening allies, we are able to ensure that the region remains peaceful.
