Tickets for Troops is to give away a number of free passes to events over the Christmas period.

The charity will be providing admission to armed forces members and their families to Premier League football matches, West End theatre shows and music concerts.

Among the occasions that military personnel can expect to get into are the ATP World Tour Finals – currently taking place at the O2 Arena in London – the Aegon Masters Tennis and gigs featuring bands such as The Saturdays, White Lies and Kaiser Chiefs.

Lord Marland, chairman of the third sector organisation, stated: "I want to pay tribute to the marvellous men and women of the armed forces who do an outstanding job in very difficult circumstances."

He added he was delighted that at this time of year so many groups have donated tickets to the initiative.

The Premier League has already committed to giving away 20,000 passes throughout the season.
