Members of Penrath's Windsor Lawn Tennis Club have held a special tournament to support soldiers.

The Penrath Times reports that 20 ladies from the club took part in a competition last Friday (October 22nd) in order to raise money for the armed services charity Help for Heroes.

Kay Clarke, one of the event's organisers, notes that the contest was held to support the fundraising efforts of her son Andrew, a captain in the Territorial Army who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Ms Clarke points out he is set to run 222 km in the Amazonian jungle this week in order to raise money for his fellow servicemen and the women at the club were keen to do their bit as well for the charity.

The tournament raised a total of £660 for Help for Heroes, with a light lunch and cakes provided by the ladies themselves rounding the day off.

Earlier this month, the Hillingdon and Uxbridge Times reported that the Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex will be hosting a nine-hour spinathon challenge to help raise funds for the charity.
