Goole schoolteacher Rebecca Buckingham is running in the Sheffield Half Marathon to raise money for Help for Heroes.

The lady has regularly been going on six-mile jogs in an effort to get in shape ahead of the big race – which takes place on May 27th – the Selby Times reports.

Ms Buckingham observed she had never ran before and since she started her training regime she has shifted four-and-a-half stone.

"I have got a lot of family who have been in the armed forces … so it is nice to raise some money for such a worthwhile cause," she added.

The tutor is also taking Zumba classes and using a cross trainer in an effort to increase her fitness ahead of the challenge.

Completing charity runs is one of the most common ways of collecting money for Help for Heroes, which has given out nearly £100 million in grants since October 2007.
