A Territorial Army (TA) member is to run a marathon in Mallorca to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Darren Roland – who recently joined the Redditch branch of the TA – told the Redditch Advertiser he is keen to give something back to support the "fantastic troops" currently stationed around the world.

He will be flying out to the Spanish island on December 11th to take part in the gruelling race, which will see him cover over 26 miles in the heat.

Mr Roland remarked "you can see first hand what this charity involves" and because of this, he felt compelled to do something for it.

He has only recently joined the TA – which is made up of servicemen and women who train in their spare time and at the weekends to support full-time military personnel.

Johannes Shanmugan – a Sri Lankan refugee living in the UK – recently walked 120 miles to collect cash for Help for Heroes, the Coventry Observer reported.
