A woman who had no idea she was pregnant has given birth suddenly in the bathroom of her parents' house.

Gaynor Rzepka, 25, was visiting her mum and dad at their home in Llantwit Major, Glamorgan last month when she experienced sharp pains in the middle of the night.

At first, she believed she needed the toilet so she made her way to the bathroom. But rather than use the facilities, she ended up giving birth to a baby boy on the lavatory.

"I just pushed and he arrived. I caught him before he went into the toilet. I was really shocked," Ms Rzepka explained.

"My first words were just repeating: 'Oh my god'. I didn't know what else to say. I burst into tears and sat on the floor. My mum said, 'It's a baby' and my dad was saying, 'Don't worry, keep calm'."

She told how there had been no signs at all that she was pregnant in the months leading up to the shock birth, as she had no morning sickness, pain or heartburn. She did not even put on much weight until Christmas, which she attributed to festive eating.

With hindsight, Ms Rzepka said the one clue that she was pregnant was that she began to crave Mars bars, which under normal circumstances she dislikes.

She even completed a ten-hour shift at the supermarket at which she works the day before she delivered her baby, highlighting how life really did remain entirely normal for the new mother.

Five months into the pregnancy she even ran the Cardiff Half Marathon and she remained healthy.

The result of the shock birth is that Ms Rzepka now has a son who has been named Olly-James and weighed in at 6lb 5oz.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801700732-ADNFCR
