Those keen to show how much they support soldiers and have fun at the same time could consider attending the world's first official haggis-eating championship.

Set to take place in Edinburgh on June 19th, the competition will be judged by representatives of the Guinness World Record body and funds raised will be donated to Help for Heroes, the Scotsman reports.

Some 50 individuals will try to eat one pound of the Scottish dish in less than two minutes.

Author Alexander McCall Smith is among a number of celebrities to have backed the event, commenting: "There are many causes for which I would be most happy to eat haggis, but this one in particular deserves its haggis."

And Charlie Reid from The Proclaimers – known for hits such as I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) – agreed that Help for Heroes is "the most worthy of causes", the publication notes.
