A sunbed shop assistant has been ploughing through emails and telephone calls in her new role as the Ayrshire coordinator for Help for Heroes, it has been revealed.

Laura McCrorie, 26, volunteered to help support brave soldiers who have served their country and she told the Ayrshire Post that she could not be happier.

She helps mentor events, attends cheque presentations and gains publicity for fundraising.

Her interest in the charity started when a friend was injured while serving in Afghanistan.

Talking about the brave soldiers she helps, Ms McCrorie told the newspaper: "These guys just take it in their stride. [An injured soldier] went on to do a skydive and raised money for Help for Heroes."

Other females who have offered to support troops include members of the Potters Bar Hockey Club – who stripped bare to pose for a saucy calendar – in order to raise money for the charity, the Welwyn Hatfield Times recently reported.
