Over £1,500 has been raised to support soldiers thanks to the work of a quilting group in Scotland.

Stirling Castle Quilters generated cash for Help for Heroes by creating a quilt that became the prize in a raffle, local newspaper the Observer reports.

Individual members made stars from quilt packs, before joining them up to form the finished product, which was won by Ms Johnstone of Kippen.

"This has been a labour of love and our way of generating support for our wounded service personnel," a spokesperson was quoted as saying, adding: "Thanks to all were involved in its making."

The money raised from the raffle – which will be used to support armed forces who have suffered injury in the line of duty – was presented to colonel Bruce Russell, who also drew out the winning raffle ticket.

Help for Heroes, which was set up three years ago, has so far raised £70 million to provide support to armed forces.ADNFCR-2867-ID-800104243-ADNFCR
