A Sri Lankan refugee living in the UK has completed a 120-mile charity walk to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Johannes Shanmugan fled the country of his birth and sought sanctuary in England after war erupted in his nation.

The Coventry Observer remarked that Mr Shanmugan completed the distance in six days, visiting Milton Keynes, Luton and St Albans along the way.

His final stop was Downing Street, where he delivered a letter to prime minister David Cameron thanking the government from the Tamil community.

Mr Shanmugan hopes to raise £10,000 from his adventure and stated his aim is to help "British troops [get] rehabilitated, while also supporting orphaned children still in Sri Lanka".

Of the walk, he observed it was a "huge thank you to the British public" for the civil liberties offered to his people by the country.

It comes after the Oxford Mail reported a group of eight civilians completed a 100-mile run to collect cash for the Baton charity.
