People taking part in a sponsored swim have helped to raise funds for the armed forces charity Help for Heroes.

Huddersfield Crusaders Swimming Club and Salendine Nook Swimming Stroke Technique generated more than £3,500 for the good cause, the Huddersfield Daily Examiner reports.

The money collected will go towards helping brave servicemen and women injured while fighting for their country on the front line.

Hochtief Facility Management enabled the fundraiser to go ahead by donating pool time for the event, while Speedo also provided items to be sold.

Lifeguards and coaches at the club Ben Fairhurst and Ryan Murgatroyd were on-hand to make sure the participants were safe and offered hints at tips to those taking part.

Anita Murgatroyd, who helped to organise the challenge, explained the event was planned in the space of just two weeks, with donations being made by swimmers and their friends and family.

She stated: "We know that our efforts will not bring our troops home but we do hope it shows that we care."
