Whenever people decide to give online dating a go, they have to make sure their profile represents them in a positive light.

There is no point in joining a service if they do not give themselves a chance of finding Mr or Mrs Right.

This is why it is a good idea to seek out some advice on the matter, as this should increase anyone's chance of getting a few dates.

Rachel Tarley, writing in the Metro, observed that honesty is the best policy and so individuals should not write any lies on their page.

"On the whole, people appreciate honesty, because surprises just aren't that romantic in the context of internet dating," she added.

Ms Tarley added there is nothing wrong with injecting a bit of humour into a profile, but everyone should be wary of cliches and platitudes.

Finally, people should not be afraid to be direct and respond if they read a profile that interests them.
