A homecoming parade is being staged in the city for the First Battalion, the Royal Anglian Regiment on Thursday (June 17th), the Echo reports.

Southend Council said it hopes individuals will flock to the event, which will take place between 12:30 and 13:30 BST.

Following the procession, the troops have been invited to a reception at the Naval and Military Club.

Ann Holland, the mayor of Southend, expressed her delight at being able to welcome the service men and women home.

"The troops are doing such a great job and I am proud and very honoured to be able to greet them," she remarked.

Writing for Third Sector, Alex Blyth recently noted the charity for injured soldiers Help for Heroes has become one of the biggest fundraising success stories in Britain.
