Police officers are taking on a seven-month fundraising challenge as they seek to collect £100,000 for a military charity.

Members of the South Wales and Dyfed-Powys force are coming together in support of Help for Heroes (H4H), the South Wales Evening Post reports.

They are also teaming up with security firm G4S as they carry out a range of events that will capture the public's imagination.

The scheme was launched on Sunday (November 25th) with a bucket collection at the Liberty Stadium and will culminate with the Heroes Challenge UK, which is set to take place in May 2013.

It will see a team of 12 people cover more than 1,250 miles of Britain by land, sea and air – as well as completing a skydive in Swansea and climbing four different peaks.

South Wales Police's PC Richard Morgan thanked Swansea City for helping them to "kickstart [their] fundraising adventure" on Sunday.
