A group of wounded servicemen and women are taking part in a charity bike ride.

Some 34 members of the armed forces are tackling the Big Battlefield Bike Ride and all money raised will go to Help for Heroes (H4H), the Portsmouth News reports.

The group, who will be joined by 226 civilians, are getting a boat to Le Harve in France before making their way to the Somme via two-wheelers – a journey of over 350 miles.

Among those taking part is Bob Ferguson, who has already completed three such challenges.

"My son is in the army and it's so good there's a group looking after the young people who come back wounded. Doing the ride is amazing [but] it's hard work," Mr Ferguson stated.

Co-founder and chief executive of H4H Bryn Parry will also be riding in the challenge and admitted he has been amazed by the success of the charity.
