Organisers of the London Olympics have showed how much they support soldiers by pledging to give a total of 10,000 passes for the Games to the Tickets For Troops scheme.

The initiative offers serving members of the armed forces the chance to register and be awarded entrance to a whole host of events.

London 2012 Organising Committee chair Seb Coe said: "I'm absolutely delighted that through our Ticketshare scheme we will be involving members of the armed services and their families."

It has been made possible thanks to the funds raised from the sale of the Prestige tickets and money will go to a range of deserving causes, he continued.

Lord Coe claimed it was "unimaginable" not to have serving soldiers benefiting from this project and he urged people to register on the Tickets For Troops website.

Some 125,000 passes will also be donated to London schoolchildren, as well as 50,000 going to pupils around the country.

Soldiers must sign up to the website by November 1st to be eligible.
