Those who own holiday homes in the UK have been encouraged to show how much they support soldiers in a new scheme run by Premier Cottages and Help for Heroes.

Named Holidays4Heroes, the initiative offers troops and their families the opportunity to stay in a luxury cottage and have a well-earned break.

Premier Cottages members will donate a minimum of 52 weeks of free stays and are also set to carry out a range of fundraising activities via the Band of Sisters branch of Help for Heroes.

Gold members will offer a holiday in one of their properties or pledge to earn at least £500 each for the charity, while silver members will carry collection tins and promotional material for the organisation in their premises.

A total commitment of £50,000 has been pledged by the 225 members of Premier Cottages.

Help for Heroes has now raised £100.65 million to help injured soldiers.
