Some 110 UK service personnel have been recognised by Her Majesty The Queen in her annual New Year’s Honours list.

Among them are soldiers of all ranks from dozens of regiments.

Those honoured include soldiers from the Coldstream Guards, Royal Army Medical Corps, The Royal Dragoon Guards, The Royal Logistics Corps and The Parachute Regiment.

Many civilians have also been recognised for their work in the Ministry of Defence or other aspects of UK defence.

Among the celebrity world, Formula One World Champion Jenson Button has been made an MBE and Star Trek actor Patrick Stewart has been knighted.

The Queen also recognised Status Quo rockers Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt.

Honours are granted to deserving and high-achieving people from all sections of the community to reward their merit, service or bravery.

Anyone can recommend a British national to receive an honour, which is received from The Queen or The Prince of Wales at a ceremony called an Investiture.
