David Beckham has been described as a legend, not for his skills with a football but for the fact that he has flown to Afghanistan to give British troops a morale boost.

Private Ryan Campbell, from the Royal Marines 40 Commando, told Cambridge-news.co.uk that meeting the former England captain has given everyone a huge boost and described the visit as "inspirational".

Beckham, 35, flew to Afghanistan on Friday and told British soldiers how he admires their courage and the job they are doing in trying to get Afghanistan on the right track.

Private Campbell told the news provider: "He’s a legend and an even bigger legend for coming out here."

The former Manchester United, Real Madrid and AC Milan star, who will not be representing England at this summer’s World Cup because of injury, paid tribute to fallen soldiers yesterday (May 24th) at a memorial at Camp Bastion, an experience he described as "humbling".
