Soldiers and golfers teamed up to play a few holes in aid of charity, raising £4,800 in the process.

A special golf day was held at Elton Furze Golf Club in Haddon, Peterborough, with people from all around the UK flocking to the course to take part, the Evening Telegraph reports.

There were 33 teams altogether, each with four members who were swinging their clubs in aid of Help for Heroes.

Paul Priston helped to organise the event with Barbara Stone and says: "We chose the charity as we have a lot of connections with the army.

"My son serves in the army and Barbara lost a nephew in Northern Ireland. It's a charity very close to our hearts."

Policemen also chose to play a few rounds recently to raise funds for Help for Heroes.

A marathon challenge lasting 15 hours and taking in three golf clubs was completed by 12 fundraisers, who wanted to earn more than £2,000 for the charity, the Southport Visiter reported.
