A donation of £140,000 has been given to Alabare Homes for Veterans by ABF The Soldiers' Charity to fund work taking place in England and Wales. The charity helps service men and women to adapt to civilian life when they are finding the transition difficult after leaving active service.

Alabare Homes for Veterans operates across the UK and offers help and support to ex-service men and women who are homeless or who are at risk of becoming homeless – which can be caused by social isolation and the lack of a support network following discharge.

Currently, 24 Homes for Veterans are located across England and Wales, which provide help for treating health issues and PTSD, as well as support for those who have experienced a family breakdown or are unemployed. A total of 120 bed spaces are currently provided for veterans, with 2015 seeing 230 helped in the UK.

Alabare allows veterans to develop the confidence and gain the skills that they need to cope with civilian life, allowing them to move on after their time in the forces. The money donated by ABF The Soldiers' Charity will enable the organisation to help more veterans get their lives on track.

A block grant of £50,000 is to go towards new projects being developed in Wales, while a further £90,000 will be used to help individual veterans throughout England.

Chief executive of Alabare, Andrew Lord said: “The Soldiers’ Charity has been a very generous supporter of Alabaré’s work with vulnerable veterans. Over the last 7 years, they have provided Alabaré with financial support to enable us to provide the much-needed care and support the veterans need.

"From their initial help in Bristol to now supporting our work in the South West of England and Wales. The Soldiers’ Charity is a great organisation to work with as we both strive to transform the lives of veterans. Thank you to the ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.”ADNFCR-2867-ID-801823106-ADNFCR
