A 15-year-old schoolgirl has launched a shoe box appeal in an effort to raise money for soldiers serving overseas.

Beth Foster, from St Augustine’s school in Scarborough, said she wanted to help as her cousin Liam Bradley is currently stationed in Afghanistan, the Scarborough Evening News reports.

The student explained she has been really pleased with the response so far and didn’t expect it to be as successful as it has been.

“People have been filling the boxes with things like sweets, crisps and Pot Noodles, which is what my cousin misses the most,” she remarked.

Ms Foster revealed she has collected 18 boxes so far and expects more to come, adding some of them contain letters written to the troops to wish them well and thank them for their efforts.

It was recently revealed 21-year-old Xenia Marshall took part in a Calendar-Girls style photo shoot in an effort to show her support for her soldier boyfriend and raise cash for Help For Heroes.
