A serving soldier has completed the Gloucester Marathon while wearing a full ice hockey kit.

Warrant Officer Paul Brenton wanted to collect money for the Royal British Legion's (RBL's) Poppy Appeal and decided to set himself the extra challenge of running over 26 miles in the sportswear.

Despite the additional clothing, Warrant Officer Brenton was still able to get around the course in just five hours and 15 minutes.

Nicole Mayall, RBL community fundraiser for Gloucestershire, said: "We'd tried to stop him doing the race as the area was very icy, but he wasn't going to be stopped. What a fantastic achievement."

Rather than being put off by the experience, Mr Brenton intends to take part in the London Marathon in April and will once again don the ice hockey gear.

He is hoping to break the current world record for the fastest marathon while wearing the apparel, which currently stands at four hours and eight minutes.
