An Afghanistan war veteran is planning to walk the whole length of Hadrian’s Wall to raise cash for soldiers injured in battle.

Captain Ed Poynter, from the 2nd Battalion The Rifles, will do the 87-mile journey on foot to support the British Limbless Ex-Service Men’s Association, which helps troops hurt in conflict have normal lives back in Blighty.

The 27-year-old, from Hammersmith, told the BBC that he came back from his six-month tour of duty unscathed but that others weren’t so lucky.

He therefore feels he has to do something to help other brave boys and girls return home and receive all the help they need.

"I hope my effort will go some way to helping those with horrific injuries readjust to normal life," he added.

Sergeant Gavin Harvey, of 6 Close Support Battalion Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, recently opened the purpose-built Physical and Recreation Training Centre in Tidworth Garrison where injured troops will have access to a super-gym and other facilities.
