A soldier has been nominated by Help 4 Heroes (H4H) to carry the torch ahead of the Paralympic Games.

Mike Goody, who was injured while serving his country in Afghanistan, was put forward by support staff at the armed forces charity on account of his work helping fellow servicemen and women wounded in action, the Littlehampton Gazette reports.

Mr Goody, an acting lance corporal with the Royal Air Force, will carry the flame on the opening day of the Games – which are running from August 29th to September 9th – with four other selected torchbearers through Newham in London.

In addition, the 27-yerar-old has also been chosen to play a part in the closing ceremony – although the details of which are a closely-guarded secret.

Mr Goody stated: "I am so incredibly humbled and honoured to be taking part in the Paralympic Torch relay, especially since the Olympics have just finished."

He added the event should "do wonders" for disabled sport across the UK.
