A soldier who has spent the last four and a half months serving as a clerk with a bomb disposal unit in Afghanistan has been spending some quality time with her baby girl.

Lance corporal Naomi Thriepland, from Furness, Cumbria, returned home at the beginning of the month to be with her little girl Aiesha and her mum Fiona, the North West Evening Mail reported.

At Christmas, GMTV set up a video link from Afghanistan to her home in the UK so she could say hello and send her love, something which made both mother and daughter burst into tears.

Lance corporal Thriepland told the newspaper that the whole thing was very emotional but that she loved every minute of it.

"It was good because I had not seen Aiesha for quite a while. Obviously, I did not expect her to cry which made me cry," she stated.

Squadron leader William Waugh recently met his son for the first time when he returned home from Helmand province last month.
