A fundraising drive by Staffordshire-based Hanley Economic Building Society has attracted support from a young solder, who has taken time out of training to back it despite being “weeks” away from redeployment, it has been reported.

The appeal is aimed at helping injured service personnel on the frontline through the Help for Heroes charity, according to thisisstaffordshire.co.uk.

Simon Maund, who has already completed tours of Iraq and Afghanistan, is with the Joint Helicopter Support Squadron and is backing the fund organised by friend Nicola Colclough, who works at Hanley Economic’s Newcastle branch.

David Webster, chief executive of the company, said: “It’s amazing how easily this has come together and it shows that … there’s a lot of admiration for what the guys are doing out there.”

It was recently revealed 15-year-old schoolgirl Beth Foster, from St Augustine’s school in Scarborough, has launched a shoe box appeal to raise money for soldiers serving overseas.
