A brave soldier has spoken of his pride at holding his baby son for the first time following a five-month tour of Afghanistan.

In an interview with the Sun, Danny Hughes, from the Royal Welsh regiment, said that all he could think about on his way back home was meeting his boy and holding him in his arms.

"I’d seen pictures but nothing beats holding him – and he’s a lot bigger than I thought he would be," he stated.

Jennie Chung, Danny’s girlfriend, told the newspaper that she was delighted to get her hero back home to meet his son.

"He’s got a lot of catching up to do. I can’t wait for us to be a proper family," she said.

Danny now has three weeks to spend with his son before he has to return to the army.

The brave boys and girls from the 3 Rifles battlegroup were reunited with their families on Saturday (May 8th) with a homecoming service taking place in Edinburgh.
