Members of the armed forces who are looking for love may wish to log online in the hope of finding a potential partner, as it has been suggested that social networking sites have "altered romance for our generation".

Lydia Williams, a senior at the College of Liberal Arts, told the Purdue Exponent that the internet has transformed the way people date in modern society, allowing couples to "enchant" each other before having to meet in a face-to-face setting.

She explained that she met her current boyfriend because she recognised him at a party after looking at his page on a social networking site.

"I must bow down and thank the internet gods for facilitating our relationship," she said.

The Telegraph recently suggested that single soldiers looking for love might be wise to get a mate to write their online profile for them. According to the publication, a trusted friend can help to act as an honest second opinion.
