Single soldiers who want something a little different from a relationship may be wise to head online, as it has been suggested that using the internet will allow people to "customise" their dates.

VJ Manish, writing for the Mumbai Mirror, says: "It offers an ocean of people to choose from. Imagine walking into a party and announcing, "I need a short, fair girl who likes Chinese food!" and voila, everyone else but three short, fair women disappear! That’s internet dating for you."

However, he goes on to add that it is important to understand all facets of online dating lingo – if a person describes themselves as ‘cuddly’, they are more than likely to be on the chubby side, he suggests.

Similarly, Mr Manish advises it is wise to post an up-to-date photo where you are being yourself. This will ensure when meeting any potential partners in a face-to-face situation that neither party will be disappointed, as they know what they are getting into.

Dominic Knight, writing for the Sydney Morning Herald, recently suggested single soldiers should make sure they smile in online dating profile pictures to give the impression they have a wonderful life.
