The development of social media technology has changed the dating world forever.

With the advent of Twitter and Facebook, individuals are able to interact with each other in a number of different ways that were not previously possible.

Indeed, there are plenty of stories of people finding love through a relationship struck up on one of these channels.

According to the Edmonton Sun, the advent of new communication methods has brought challenges for individuals.

"The subtlety of text messages and Facebook posts have nearly replaced the telephone conversations and personal interaction of early courtship altogether," the paper stated.

As a result of the immediate connectivity offered by such sites, people should be cautious before committing to any face-to-face meetings.

Individuals also need to have a set of guidelines in place, such as refusing to meet someone who has cancelled a date a number of times, or waiting a certain amount of time before responding to a text message.
