Have you heard of the film Snakes on a Plane?

In the picture, criminals put hundreds of snakes onto a plan in an effort to kill a witness who saw a gangster commit a crime.

When it was released, the Hollywood B-movie became something of a cult classic thanks to the preposterous nature of the premise.

However, those who condemned the plot may be forced to eat some humble pie after a snake was found on the wing of a Qantas flight from Australia to Papua New Guinea.

The reptile was found to be a scrub python – the largest snake in Australia – and it is well known for being able to squeeze into small spaces.

Passenger Robert Weber told the Sydney Morning Herald: "The people at the front were oblivious to what was going on, but the passengers at the back were all totally focused on the snake and how it might have got on to the aircraft."
