As the wind and rain batters most of the UK, people are beginning to dig out their coats and scarves in preparation for the autumn months.

However, hundreds of people have decided to strip off rather than wrap up as they took part in a world record attempt at Druridge Bay.

Around 200 swimmers bared all as they ran into the freezing water – but their attempt to break the record for the most skinny dippers fell short, meaning their efforts were in vain.

The stunt did, however, generate funds for mental health charity Mind, meaning the participants can still be proud of their efforts, even if they did get cold and wet for nothing.

Speaking to the BBC, organiser of the event Jacqueline Higginson said the day was a lot of fun, adding: "Today loads of us ran naked into the sea to raise money for Mind and to celebrate ourselves and our bodies."
