Single soldiers who are currently registered with online dating websites may find that broadening their search and going for people who would not be their usual type will lead them to true love.

Anne Hollands, president of Relationships Australia, says to the Mosman Daily: "There is some evidence that men and women have become too picky and approach romance with a tick-the-box shopping list mentality."

"But sometimes you might find that the bald, short man is actually ok, someone who could be your best friend and potential lover."

She goes on to add that online daters would be wise to ask themselves whether they are expecting too much from potential partners.

Ms Hollands suggests instead of focusing solely on finding love, single soldiers should concentrate on enjoying life, adding it is important to search for friendship first in the hope that romance will follow.

A recent study undertaken by psychologists at Johannes Gutenburg-University of Mainz found that internet daters tend to be more honest in descriptions of themselves than they may be given credit for, with people adopting online personas similar to their true personality.
