People hoping to meet someone should make the effort with online dating, rather than hoping love will come to them, it has been suggested.

Louis Gibney found her perfect match through the internet and advised other singles to take matters into their own hands, the Northampton Chronicle and Echo reports.

Ms Gibney noted the world wide web offers a good way to meet folks, as long as they are careful in the way they conduct themselves.

She said: "People moan about being single but all they do is sit there on the sofa and watch TV every night."

The successful internet dater advised individuals to get out there and meet others, rather than sitting around waiting for it to happen.

Many people claim they would like to have a boyfriend or girlfriend but do nothing to help it occur, she added.

In a recent article for State Press, Lindsey Kupfer noted the number of responses online daters receive can act as a real confidence-booster.
